Flooding, internet problems, and a Liebster Award!

I have so much going on right now, it's a little crazy. I suppose I'll need to spread it out over a few posts!

First, I finally made it home from my vacation at 4:45 AM on Monday and the first thing I noticed was that there seemed to be about a hundred bees or hornets flying all around my front porch light. Upon inspection, there was in fact a brand new, huge hornets' nest right there near the doorway.

My house right now.
So after dealing with that inconvenience, I finally got into the house around 5:30 and discovered that my basement DID in fact flood pretty badly. My house smelled like Satan's dirty socks, and the furniture, walls, etc. in the basement are all pretty much ruined. It's a finished basement, and we use it as our main living room. After about 12 consecutive hours of pumping, sucking up water with the steam cleaner, washing the walls with bleach, and running 3 dehumidifiers...I got it to the point where it was just a an extremely damp, humid swamp of a room instead of the GA Aquarium. 2 days later and it is not damp anymore, it just still has a moldy odor to it. I tested behind the drywall of one wall and discovered that it was soaked through the insulation, but the wood framing was fine. Either way, all the walls are ruined.

Killer B and I decided the next step is to just Lysol the heck out of everything, including the furniture, and keep dehumidifying until we figure out what we want to do about the walls. SIGH!

After all that, what do you think I want to do? I mean after I slept for 13 hours straight that is...you got it! Curl up on my couch and just relax by reading some e-mail and blogs. BUT the fates aligned against me again because that's when I discovered that my internet was out and wouldn't come back on despite all the normal tricks. Sigh again.

But, there is some good with the bad! I still had my iphone, and through it I discovered that I'd been nominated for a Liebster Award by 3 other bloggers! So I'm going to type up a blog post and hope for a window of internet to post it! I keep telling Killer B that I'm going to have to go and sit in a Starbucks and read the 200 blog posts on bloglovin' that I haven't been able to read! Aargh!

Thanks so much to Deirdre from A Burst of First, Courtney from Polka Dot Lesson Plans, and Danielle from Live. Love. Math! I'm so excited that others thought of me!

So, here's how it works, now I get to nominate some blogs with fewer than 200 followers, and then answer some questions, share 11 random facts, then ask 11 questions for my nominees!

So, I'd like to nominate:

  1. So sorry about your house...no good!
Your first day of teaching reminds me of my first day of student teaching in Kindergarten. I was walking down the hall where the sweet little babies were sitting so patiently for class to start. One precious little angel rolled around on the floor, looked up my dress and asked me when my baby was due. Um...18 years later I still don't have children. Ha! Shocking and hilarious all at the same time!

  5. Couple of things:
Your brother's monster clip art is amazing.
Haribo Gummi Bears are the best...I prefer mine frozen in the freezer first.
I'd like to know more about this marksmanship and guerilla artistry.
Also, I'm guessing you love your shepards. We thought about going that route, but ended up getting a pound pup. No complaints though

    1. I keep telling Pete he should make more clip art. He's been too busy lately, but I'm trying to nudge him to make it for all the units I have. Haha.

Among others, I've won two gold medals in the Jr. Olympics for small bore, long range, rifle marksmanship! I was awarded a few different athletic scholarships(for marksmanship) to different universities and West Point, but they would have all ended with me as a 2nd Lt. in the Army. I then would have likely been assigned to the Army Marksmanship Unit which basically travels and shoots targets for a living. Of course...to the disappointment of my grandfather (who shot for the AMU in his Army days!) I scrapped all that and took an academic scholarship and became an elementary school teacher instead and don't regret it for a minute! Especially since 9/11 happened my first year of teaching (which is when I would have been fresh out of boot camp.)

I was really into wheatpaste tagging, stickering, and 3-layer stencil tagging when I was younger. I still am actually...I just can't afford to get caught doing any of it now! Now I mostly leave handmade goods with notes attached in public places, put up funny flyers around town, sticker here and there, and occasionally stencil/chalk-paint tag. Basically non-permanently defacing things stuff!

I had a pound puppy from the age of 16 until 30 and she was awesome. My wife does a dog sport called Schutzhund with our shepherds, so they're really intense. They're working line dogs from Europe. Still sweet most of the time though!

  6. You clean the mess for 12 hours straight? That’s a lot of work! To think that it happened in your basement; which means the clearing would be a little tricky. So, did you find out what caused the flood?
