So much for Spring coming...!

So, this was the view from my kitchen yesterday morning when I got up to get my morning coffee. There's a storm set to deliver another 4-6 inches on Monday too! Aargh! I am SO ready for Spring. And quite frankly I can't really afford for my district to call a snow day for two reasons. 1) We only have 11 days to prepare for the state standardized reading and math tests, and 2) We're at the point now where another snow make-up day pushes us into having our last day of school on a Monday instead of a Friday. My district never calls early, so I guess I'll find out at 5:30 AM tomorrow morning!

I'm joining in on Flying into First Grade's Two Truths and a Lie Linky Party! Here you go:

1) I was a double gold medalist in the Junior Olympics.
2) I passed up a full ride at West Point to be a teacher.
3) I've taught every Elementary grade level.

Which one is the lie?! I'll update later this week and reveal it!

In other news:

Congrats to Sara H-F. on winning my very first giveaway ever! I'm pretty excited to be close to 25 followers already!

I've recently become obsessed with making my own fonts. I'm prepping a set to put on my TpT store right now in fact!  Speaking of my store, I was so excited to finally break past the point where my sales were greater than my subscription costs! My store is now profitable! Now...if I could just stop buying things from other people on there I might actually be profitable!

Well, time to relax, read, watch some TV, do some pinteresting ( I know that's not a word) and check one last time that all is ready for this week of school!

  1. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the lie is about you teacing every elementary grade level. That's alot! As for all that snow.... we live in Ohio and I think were just as ready for spring as you are. Although we don't have any snow on the ground, so that's a start!

  2. I have to say I am shocked about your snow days. Not that we EVER get them here in Toronto! In my 22 years the schools have only been closed twice. The first time I was in my 2nd or 3rd year. The other one was last year...and to add insult to injury, I had already booked the day off for a doctor apt! We don't make up days if a snow day is called, I would die if we had to push the school year calendar later than it already is. I think we end on June 28th this year, or somewhere close to that !
Good luck on the testing...I have to do math and language tests too but not until May/June. I still have time to prep:)

    1. The funny thing is, when I taught in Georgia we would get a snow day if it even flurried. All the grocery stores would sell out of bread and milk and people would flip out if we had school.

Now, we have school when there's practically a blizzard going on...at least from this Southern boy's perspective!

My district is a big fan of the "2-hour delay" as well. School starts at 10am, but we count it as a whole day of school.

Assessing kids at the actual end of the year makes too much sense for the PA State government apparently. It'll be nice to have the testing over with though so we can focus on real school again!

  3. My guess is number 3 that you've taught every grade! We are already going to have to make up time for our snow days in Kansas too! Right now we are adding 5 minutes to the school day and making our last 1/2 day a full day. Not too bad, but I'm ready for spring! :)

    1. Man, I wish we could add minutes onto the remaining days. I'd actually love it if our school day was longer anyway.

For us, we can only count it as a school day if lunch is served. So we don't have the option of adding half days or minutes to add up to a day. Sigh!

  4. I am with you with the need to cover a lot of things before PSSAs...I am just glad they are in April again. When they were in March I was way too overwhelmed. I think your lie is teaching every elementary grade level.

  5. I am going with #3 as well. I teach in MI and we assess in October! It is supposed to assess what they learned in the previous grade. How is THAT for stupid. We have gone over out allotment of snow days this year by about 2-3 days...we have had 12 snow days. :(

    1. 12 snow days! Ouch!

My district builds in 3-4 days, we've used them and now we're losing summer. Let's face it, a make up day in June is almost worthless.

  6. I am thinking #3 is your lie. That is crazy about the snow, we had 91 degree heat last week. I am your newest follower.
